Startups

The first steps for a business are always daunting regardless of its founders’ prior experience. Every startup will have its unique share of strategic, legal, and business challenges.

BCF’s Startup team leverages our significant experience, availability and business network to accelerate the transformation of our clients’ ideas into healthy and sustainable growth. BCF’s multidisciplinary team, comprised of commercial lawyers, tax specialists, engineers, scientists and patent agents, provides innovative solutions to help startups realise their ambitions. Our professionals are pleased to share their expertise to guide new businesses towards the optimal legal structure to adopt, to set up their first shareholders' agreement, to ensure transfer of their intellectual property rights, to protect their innovations with patents, trademarks or otherwise, to set up an efficient structure to maximise scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) tax credits, to support them in their first rounds of financing with angel investors or venture capital fund during pre-seed, seed and beyond.

As a testament to our commitment to startups, BCF created BCF Imagine, a unique program to help startups in the fields of innovation and technology. Our candidates come from a variety of industries across Canada, the United States and Europe. A total of 30 companies have been admitted into the program and are already experiencing great success. Seven have received major pre-seed and seed investments, including two currently in the first round of Series A financing, and four others have been admitted to a high-level incubator and recognised accelerator program. We are proud to support the Canadian ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship.
