Death of Nicolas Mateesco MatteApril 26th, 2016
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of our colleague Nicolas Mateesco Matte.
Nicolas Mateesco Matte, who practised with our firm as counsel until 2009, died on April 13th at the age of 102.
A native of Romania, Mr. Matte led a long and fruitful career, first in his native country, where he completed his law studies at the University of Bucharest in 1939, then in Quebec, where he was a member of the Bar since 1956. Mr. Matte also held a doctorate of law from Université de Paris, which he obtained in 1947.
Mr. Matte was a professor at the Faculty of Law of Université de Montréal and at McGill University’s Institute of Air & Space Law, which he directed for many years.
Among his prestigious endeavours, Mr. Matte published a wealth of scientific works which earned him many honours, awards and distinctions, many of which are displayed in a conference room at our Montreal offices which bears his name in commemoration of his rich professional heritage.
Also being committed to his community, Mr. Matte collaborated on the creation of the Cosmodôme science museum in Laval, and contributed to the development of the Municipality of Brossard, where a boulevard is named after him.
BCF Business Law extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Matte’s two children, Anne-Karyne and Daniel, and to his grandchildren, family, and numerous friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
