Published annually since 1997, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory is celebrating its 30th edition in 2026. It remains a leading reference for identifying the top lawyers and law firms in the country across more than 65 areas of practice.
Today, it serves as an essential resource for:

- legal professionals themselves.
Recognition in this directory means being part of a select group of practitioners considered leaders in their field, whose expertise is validated by the industry.
A Rigorous Methodology Based on Peer Evaluation
The strength of this ranking lies in its independent methodology, built around an extensive peer survey conducted across Canada. Each year, this survey is sent to more than 24,000 lawyers nationwide, both in private practice and in-house, making it one of the largest evaluation exercises in the Canadian legal sector.
Lawyers are assessed by other legal professionals, both in private practice and in-house, who recommend those they consider the most competent in their field. It is therefore not merely a nomination process but a large-scale vote reflecting the opinion of the legal market.
The process notably includes:
