Authored by André Ryan, Head of BCF’s Litigation Group, and Shaun E. Finn, Litigation Partner, Québec Class – Actions – Collectives au Québec is a unique book dedicated to class actions.
Published by LexisNexis, the purpose of this bilingual and annotated book entirely dedicated to class actions is to provide the information and tools sought by in-house counsel, practitioners, law students, and even courts, whether they are in Québec or common law jurisdictions.
Following a qualitative rather than quantitative approach, the book includes and renders easily accessible the following content:
- The relevant provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure;
- Related comments issued by the Minister of Justice;
- Explanatory notes by the authors that develop and contextualize these provisions;
- Related statutes, regulations, and directives, as the case may be;
- Extracts from the jurisprudence that explain and apply the law; and
- Finally, procedural models included with the specific articles that provide for them.
Every year, several businesses and institutions must defend themselves against class actions brought before the courts of Québec. An increasing number of officers and directors of these businesses and institutions are now also targeted in such proceedings. This results in complex, large-scale, and high-stakes litigation. Moreover, class actions often involve media crisis management.
BCF’s Class Action Defence Group, of which André Ryan and Shaun E. Finn are the Co-Leaders, understands the challenges faced by those who must contend with such proceedings and knows how important it is to find effective and lasting solutions for our clients.
