How Does a Lawyer Become a NHL Team’s Right-Hand Man?

TVA Sports journalist Louis Jean spoke with André Lepage, a BCF partner who specialises in labour law, about the appointment of lawyer Julien BriseBois as general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“He [Mr. BriseBois] often raised legal aspects of situations but, beyond that, he brought new ideas about hockey to the table, with the new collective agreement and the problems it created. In my opinion, Julien was ready to take on the role of general manager six or seven years ago,” said Mr. Lepage, a former colleague of Mr. BriseBois and himself a sports labour law expert.

Mr. Lepage has known Julien BriseBois since the early 2000s, when they represented National Hockey League and Major League Baseball clubs as members of a national law firm. The sports law team at BCF continues to work with Mr. BriseBois on grievance and salary arbitrations for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
