Oleksiy Malashenko is a patent agent advising clients on developing coherent intellectual property (IP) programs based on business-driven decisions. His client base includes established companies and startups offering AI-powered products and services in Canada, the U.S. and internationally.

He helps clients acquire legal assets in several countries worldwide while optimizing the cost-benefit ratio associated with multinational IP portfolios. His main objective, however, is to provide value to business decisions and corporate strategies designed for international markets.

Oleksiy specializes in delivering solid patent protection carefully tailored to Canadian, the U.S. and European jurisdictions. Over the last ten years, he has also developed broad technological expertise by successfully leading various technologies, all underpinned by machine learning, to granted patents. These technologies include search engines, autonomous driving, image and speech recognition, natural language processing, social networks, and data monetization.

Prior to becoming a Partner and Patent Agent, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics at École Polytechnique de Montréal. His degree is supplemented by a technology innovation orientation, which developed his acumen in creating, financing, and growing tech-oriented ventures. Oleksiy provides training and coaching services for in-house counsels to prepare them for the Canadian Patent Agent Qualification Examination. He regularly lectures in numerous start up incubators and acceleration programs on the benefits and the necessity of leveraging the knowledge of AI with IP assets.

  • Providing cradle-to-grave support to in-house IP counsels for invention mining, drafting and prosecuting patent applications in key jurisdictions, and post-grant activities for mitigating IP risk;
  • Devising and deploying strategies for managing multinational IP portfolios (Canada, the U.S., Europe and Asia) containing patents, designs and utility models;
  • Extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting machine learning technologies in the U.S. and Europe, with a specific focus on subject matter eligibility, written description requirements and technical character for inventive step analysis;
  • Obtaining and managing IP assets for established technological divisions: search engines, recommendation engines, image recognition systems, speech recognition and natural language processing systems, 5G and 6G infrastructures, and data monetization platforms;
  • Obtaining and managing IP assets for newly created technological divisions: multilayered cloud computing infrastructure, smart speaker platform, intelligent personal assistant, autonomous driving, and delivery platforms.
