Gabriel Melançon has been a member of our commercial law and intellectual property teams in the Montreal office since 2021. He is involved in a wide range of technology law matters, including privacy and the protection of personal information.

Gabriel works on a wide range of commercial law matters, including the drafting of licence agreements, research collaboration agreements, the assignment of intellectual property assets, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing and more. For him, obtaining and protecting intellectual property rights is not just an end in itself: it is also an asset that any innovative company can use to increase its market value and business opportunities.

When it comes to technological issues, Gabriel brings valuable proficiency in privacy compliance. He is involved in developing privacy policies, drafting contracts for the processing of personal information, and conducting privacy impact assessments. His work also includes privacy due diligence, the use of open source software and artificial intelligence, to ensure that company practices meet the highest standards of personal data protection.

A law graduate from the Université de Sherbrooke, Gabriel also completed a Master's degree in biology, majoring in life sciences and law, to satisfy his natural curiosity for scientific and technological fields. He is the author of a master's thesis on the licensing of medical devices and their protection by patents and utility models in Canada and around the world.

He is also co-author of Précis de propriété intellectuelle, a work that popularizes and summarizes copyright, trademarks and patents for law students. Gabriel has also published a number of articles in specialized journals.
