Gabriel Melançon is a lawyer in our Business Law group at the Montreal office where he has been practising since 2021. He is involved in a broad range of matters in commercial law and technology law, including commercial contracts, technology transactions, corporate financing, and mergers and acquisitions.

Gabriel regularly advises businesses on their commercial law needs, particularly in connection with the drafting and negotiation of SaaS, distribution, and intellectual property licensing agreements, among others. He also acts in the context of fundraising transactions, whether through private financing or venture capital, and serves as legal counsel in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.

His practice further encompasses legal issues related to technology, including the use of artificial intelligence and compliance with privacy and data protection laws. He is involved in the development of privacy policies, the drafting of data processing agreements, and the conduct of privacy impact assessments. His work also includes privacy, open-source software, and artificial intelligence due diligence, ensuring that business practices comply with the highest standards of personal data protection.

A graduate of the Université de Sherbrooke Faculty of Law, Gabriel also holds a Master’s degree in Biology (Life Sciences and Law track), reflecting his strong interest in scientific and technological fields. His master’s thesis focused on the regulatory approval of medical devices and their protection through patents and utility models in Canada and internationally.

Gabriel is also a co-author of the Précis de propriété intellectuelle, a reference work designed to explain and summarize copyright, trademark, and patent law for law students. He has also published several articles in specialized journals.
