Catherine Maheu is a partner and Head of the Labour and Employment Law Group at BCF. She holds a Master of Laws from the prestigious Columbia University in New York and has been a member of the Barreau du Québec since 1994.

Fully bilingual, with excellent communication skills and a strong practical judgment, Catherine represents employers across all economic sectors, whether governed by provincial or federal legislation. Her ability to identify increasingly complex legal and business challenges faced by employers and to provide concrete, strategic solutions has enabled her to build lasting relationships of trust with our clients.

In addition to advising employers on all aspects of labour and employment law, Catherine frequently acts as a spokesperson in collective agreement negotiations. She also represents employers before specialized administrative tribunals (such as arbitration boards, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, and the Administrative Labour Tribunal), as well as before higher civil courts. In recent years, she has conducted numerous workplace investigations and led several training sessions on workplace harassment and corporate investigations.

Throughout her career, Catherine has acquired extensive experience in labour and employment law in the context of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and restructurings, including situations of bankruptcy or insolvency. She has also developed particular expertise in pension plans in both the private and public sectors, particularly regarding the application of the Act to Foster the Financial Health and Sustainability of Municipal Defined Benefit Pension Plans.

Catherine served on the board of directors of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE) for several years, and she continues to be actively involved with the organization. She has received numerous academic and professional distinctions and is recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in labour and employment law.
