Shaun E. Finn is the co-leader of BCF’s Class Action Defence group and a lawyer in the firm's Montreal-based litigation department. His practice includes complex commercial litigation and class actions.

After articling and clerking at the Québec Court of Appeal, Shaun has appeared before the Administrative Tribunal of Quebec, the Municipal Court, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the NAFTA arbitration tribunal, the Superior Court of Quebec, the Quebec Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Shaun’s class action work involves the representation of corporate and institutional defendants in the areas of product liability, mass torts, consumer protection, privacy, and securities. Shaun has been cited by courts including the Superior Court of Quebec, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, the Québec Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also been interviewed by Le Devoir, Law Times, Investment Executive, National, and Droit Inc. for his perspective on class action trends.

Shaun has written three books on class actions: (1) Class Actions in Québec: Notes for Non-Residents. 2nd Edition (Montreal: Thomson Reuters, 2018); (2) L’action collective au Québec (Montréal, Yvon Blais, 2016), a significantly revised edition of Recours singulier et collectif; (3) Class Actions in Quebec: Notes for Non-Residents (Montréal, Carswell, 2014); et (4) Recours singulier et collectif : Redéfinir le recours collectif comme procédure particulière (Montréal, Yvon Blais, 2011).

Shaun is also the editor of, and a contributing author for, The Quebec Class Action: A Roadmap (Toronto: LexisNexis, 2016), and Manuel de l’action collective (Montreal: LexisNexis, 2017), two easy-to-use primers designed for business people and in-house counsel. He also recently contributed to Class Actions in Canada (Toronto: Emond, 2018), a case book for Canadian law students. In the context of his earlier practice, Shaun was a contributing author for Defending Class Actions in Canada (2nd and 3rd eds.). Shaun is a sessional lecturer on class actions and securities litigation at the McGill Faculty of Law, and an occasional guest lecturer at the HEC Montreal business school and the University of Montreal's Faculty of Law.
