Counsel, Patent Agent
Jean-Sébastien Brière acts as legal counsel and advisory patent agent to our Intellectual Property group. The core of his practice is keeping the group and our clients current about developments in Canadian, American and European law, primarily with respect ot patents. He also advises on complex litigation matters and commercial transactions involving intellectual property assets.
Jean-Sébastien has acquired sound experience with respect to intellectual property, having worked with the IP law practice groups of three national firms over the last 16 years. He also worked for the technology transfer office of a Quebec university that is very active in this field.
In addition to his activities with the firm, Jean-Sébastien teaches intellectual property law at the Universities of Sherbrooke and Montreal. He also provides training and guidance to business start-ups at the Accélérateur de création d’entreprises technologiques, a business accelerator affiliated with the University of Sherbrooke.
Jean-Sébastien is currently writing a Ph.D. thesis on a comparative approach to patent claims drafting and interpretation rules according to Canadian, American and European law, under the direction of Professor Frédéric Pollaud-Dulian, at Université Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne.
