DIPLOMAS Called to the Barreau du Québec (1986) LL.B., Université de Sherbrooke (1985) FIELDS OF PRACTICE ECONOMIC SECTORS BIOGRAPHY In 1995, Mario Charpentier founded with six of his colleagues BCF, a law firm and patent and trade mark agents office, today numbering more than 130 professionals in Québec. He represents emerging companies in the high-tech and biotechnology sectors, in addition to various research centres and Quebec universities and their commercial branches, as well as certain venture capital funds. Mario has over 20 years experience in corporate taxation, primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, financing, and shareholder tax and estate planning. He also assists corporations looking to launch an IPO, as well as those seeking to acquire a business or develop partnerships. While since the beginning of his practice he devoted his expertise to young businesses in the new economy, Mario has also represented medium to large family enterprises. His expertise in this area is considerable, particularly when it comes to transfers of family businesses between generations, as well as employee incentive plans and management buy-outs. Since 1999, Mario has participated in more than 200 private, venture capital or public financings, primarily for his corporate clients. He has also participated in various trans-border transactions involving American and European companies. Mario is recognized as one of the most frequently recommended practitioners in the area of Technology Law in the Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory 2008. Mario has also been nominated in the 2008 edition of the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada (compiled by LEXPERT/American Lawyer). OTHER FUNCTIONS Mario serves on numerous boards of directors of various emerging corporations as director, member or observer. For a number of years, he was on the Board of Directors of the Fiscal and Financial Planning Association of Quebec, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Export Development Canada (EDC). He also has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Fondation du Centre hospitalier universitaire de Montréal (CHUM). He is a member of the BCF Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and is one of the people responsible for recruitment and professional services at BCF.
