Professional background

Marie-Josée Lapointe specializes in intellectual property and deals with all matters related to this area of law. She advises clients on the valuation of their intellectual property assets, including trade-marks, patents, copyright, trade secrets and industrial designs. She is also called upon to draft various types of contracts in connection with intellectual property, including licensing contracts, technology transfers, research, etc., in addition to performing many due diligences respecting intellectual property.

Ms. Lapointe is also a trade-mark agent and, in this capacity, frequently advises clients on setting up a strategy to protect their trade marks. She also advises businesses on compliance with various federal and provincial regulatory standards in addition to participating in intellectual property litigation cases.

Ms. Lapointe has authored many articles published in influential legal publications and has given presentations on the topic of intellectual property. She also teaches a Masters course on valuing intellectual property at the Université de Montréal and is the director of the Understanding Trade-Marks program jointly offered by McGill University and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.
