Jean-Sébastien acts as legal counsel and advisory patent agent to our Intellectual Property Group. The core of his practice is keeping the group and our clients current about developments in Canadian, American and European law, primarily with respect ot patents. He also advises on complex litigation matters and commercial transactions involving intellectual property assets.

Jean-Sébastien has acquired sound experience with respect to intellectual property, having worked with the IP law practice groups of three national firms over the last 16 years. He also worked for the technology transfer office of a Quebec university that is very active in this field.

In addition to his activities with the firm, Jean-Sébastien teaches intellectual property law at the Universities of Sherbrooke and Montreal. He also provides training and guidance to business start-ups at the Accélérateur de création d’entreprises technologiques, a business accelerator affiliated with the University of Sherbrooke.

Jean-Sébastien is currently writing a Ph.D. thesis on a comparative approach to patent claims drafting and interpretation rules according to Canadian, American and European law, under the direction of Professor Frédéric Pollaud-Dulian, at Université Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne.

These include: the Paris I Intellectual and Artistic Property Master’s II students, conferences organized by organizations such as MSBi, The Canadian Institute, McGill University, the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (Vancouver 2005 Annual Convention), the École Polytechnique de Montréal, the Metropolitan Quebec Technological Park, the University of Montreal School of Design, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal – World Trade Centre, and the Quebec Bar (Recent Developments in IP law).


  • A director of RevDec, a not-for-profit organization that works with youth who have dropped out of school or are at risk of doing so.
