JULIEN LACHERÉ et DAVID-KEI CODÈRE MARUYAMA | Montreal

The ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et des Exportations du Québec announced the launch of the programme Premier Brevet. (translated as “First Patent”). This initiative aims to help SMEs in Quebec invest in the protection of their intellectual property assets. This program offers a financial support of up to 50% of the expenses linked to eligible activities, such as the elaboration of a patent strategy, a search of prior art, a patentability analysis and/or the preparation of a patent application, up to a maximum amount of $25 000 CAN.

THE MAIN ADMISSION CRITERIA TO THE PROGRAM ARE THE FOLLOWING:

• The SME has no more than 250 employees;

• The SME has developed products or services which required internal research and development efforts, realized in whole or in part by the applicant; and

• The SME has not applied for a patent, industrial design or integrated circuit topographies in the past.

This program allows Quebec businesses to have easier access to the expertise necessary to protect and secure greater benefits from its most precious asset, their creativity.
