BIOGRAPHY

Richard Epstein has a broad range of business law experience acquired, to a great extent, in the context of cross-border transactions. His practice is concentrated in mergers and acquisitions (including competition/antitrust and foreign investment concerns), private equity investments, joint ventures and strategic alliances and general commercial transactions (including international sale of goods, licensing and agency and distribution agreements).

Richard has particular expertise in the sectors of emerging technologies and manufacturing and in the forestry products and steel industries.

Richard regularly represents clients located in Quebec in their transactions outside of Quebec (most often in the U.S., Ontario and Europe) as well as businesses located outside of Quebec in their ventures in Quebec.

Richard is co-leader of the Mergers & Acquisitions team at BCF.


PUBLICATIONS

Co-authored a paper prepared for the Competition Bureau (Canada) entitled "Comparative Analysis of Legal Frameworks Pertaining to Exchange of Information and Mutual Assistance between Canada and U.S. Authorities".

Co-authored a paper entitled "Amendments to the Pre-Merger Notification Process" and participated as a panelist on this topic at a Canadian Bar Association - Competition Law Section conference.

Prepared a paper entitled "An Overview of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (The Vienna Convention)".

Prepared an article entitled "Negotiated Mergers and Acquisitions" published in LEXPERT Cross-Border Guide - May 2008.
